The story behind Odisea

"An Odyssey inspired by the Ocean"

*Some places you discover.

Some places you never want to leave.*

In 1999, Patrick and Valérie Rey arrived in Costa Rica with their family.

They were looking for something they could not quite put into words.

A different way of living.
More freedom. More nature. More light.

And somewhere along the Pacific coast of Guanacaste, they found it.

A quiet little beach called Playa Junquillal.

There were no grand resorts. No crowds. No desire to become a destination.

There was simply the ocean.

And they fell in love with it.

THE PLACE THAT BECAME HOME

Junquillal became more than a place to live.

It became a source of inspiration.

For Patrick, an architect and designer, it was the light, the landscape and the endless horizon.

For Valérie, an artist and decorator, it was the colours, textures, natural materials and extraordinary beauty of the tropical world.

Together, they began creating a home that would feel connected to all of it.

A home open to the ocean.

A home filled with art, light and nature.

A home that would eventually become Villa Diosa del Mar.

DIOSA DEL MAR : The beginning of the dream.

Diosa del Mar was created at a time when this part of Guanacaste was still largely unknown to international luxury travelers.

The villa was built around a simple idea:

Why bring the ocean into a room when you can simply open the room to the ocean?

The house was designed to breathe with the landscape.

The Pacific became the view from the living spaces, the sound in the morning, the horizon at sunset.

And slowly, something unexpected happened.

Friends began asking if they could stay.

Then travelers discovered the villa.

And the family decided to open their home to guests.

SHARING THE DREAM

In 2007, the Rey family began welcoming guests on a regular basis.

What started as a home became a very personal form of hospitality.

There was no intention to create a hotel.

The idea was simply to share a beautiful place with people who appreciated it as much as they did.

Guests came from around the world.

They celebrated together.

They relaxed.

They fell in love.

They came back.

And little by little, Diosa del Mar developed a reputation of its own.

At one point, the villa was represented internationally by Luxury Retreats, bringing this quiet corner of Costa Rica to travelers searching for something truly different.

Yet behind the photographs and reservations, the essence remained unchanged:

it was still our home.

THEN CAME HERMÈS : When a home becomes architecture.

Patrick had never stopped imagining.

After years of living beside the ocean, he wanted to explore a new architectural language.

Something more contemporary.

More sculptural.

But still deeply connected to the landscape.

And so Villa Hermès was born.

Where Diosa del Mar is warm and tropical, Hermès is contemporary and expressive.

Where one tells the story of where the journey began, the other tells the story of how the vision evolved.

Different in character.

Connected by the same ocean.

And by the same hands that created them.

TWO VILLAS. ONE LOVE FOR THE PLACE.

Standing side by side on Playa Junquillal, Diosa del Mar and Hermès eventually became something more than two private villas.

They became Odisea.

A place where architecture and nature meet.

Where the boundary between inside and outside disappears.

Where mornings begin with the Pacific and evenings end beneath the stars.

Odisea is not a resort.

It is not a hotel.

It is a family story that grew into a place we could share with others.

THE BEAUTY OF KEEPING IT PERSONAL

After all these years, Patrick and Valérie are still here.

They still live in Costa Rica.

They still care for the villas.

They still welcome their guests.

And they still believe that the most beautiful luxury is often the simplest:

a beautiful place,

a warm welcome,

a little privacy,

and the feeling that, for a few days, this could be your home too.

A STORY WRITTEN BY OUR GUESTS

Over the years, thousands of people have passed through Odisea.

Some stayed for a week.

Some returned year after year.

Some came as strangers and left as friends.

Their words, their photographs, their celebrations and their memories have become part of the story too.

Because ultimately, a home is not defined only by the people who create it.

It is also defined by the people who fill it with life.

AND THE OCEAN REMAINS

More than twenty-five years after Patrick and Valérie first arrived in Costa Rica, the Pacific is still there.

The same horizon.

The same sunsets.

The same sound of the waves reaching the shore.

The villas have evolved.

The family has grown.

But the reason they are here has never changed.

They fell in love with this place.

And they decided to share it.

THIS IS ODISEA

Two villas.

One family.

A lifetime of creativity.

More than two decades in Costa Rica.

And an ocean that started it all.

Welcome to our home, Welcome to Odisea!
